nlsio LLC ("we," "us," or "our") operates the Dear Valentine mobile application (the "App"). This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and protect your information when you use our App.

When you use Dear Valentine, we collect and store the following personal information to provide and improve our service:

• Device Identifier: A unique device ID from your iPhone (required)
• User Information: Your name and age (optional)
• Recipient Information: Your loved one's name, nickname, and age (optional)
• Preferences: Your preferred language and tone for messages (required)
• Onboarding Status: Whether you've completed the app setup

This information is transmitted to and stored on our secure servers hosted by Upsun in their Canada region.

1.2 Generated Content

We collect and store information about the love letters and messages you generate, including:

• Content Details: The full text of generated letters and messages
• Generation Parameters: Content type (letter/message), tone, occasion, and language
• Recipient Information: Names and nicknames used in the content
• Custom Prompts: Any special instructions you provide
• Usage Metrics: API tokens consumed for generation

This data is stored on our secure servers for analytics and service improvement purposes.

1.3 Usage Information

We may collect minimal anonymous usage data to improve the App, including:

• App usage statistics (e.g., number of generations, feature usage)
• Device information (e.g., iOS version, device model)
• Error logs and crash reports

This data is anonymized and cannot be linked back to individual users or the content you create.

2. How We Use Your Information

We use the information we collect to:

• Generate personalized love letters and messages using AI
• Store your preferences to improve your experience

3. Third-Party Services and Data Sharing

3.1 Anthropic (Claude AI)

We use Anthropic's Claude AI service to generate love letters and messages. When you request content generation, your input (including names, preferences, and custom prompts) is transmitted to Anthropic's API. Anthropic's use of this data is governed by their Privacy Policy and Commercial Terms.

3.2 Hosting Provider (Upsun)

Our API and database are hosted by Upsun (a Platform.sh company) in their Canada region. All data you provide is stored on secure servers in Canada. Upsun's data handling practices are governed by their privacy policy.

3.3 Apple App Store

Dear Valentine is distributed through Apple's App Store. Apple's privacy practices are governed by their own privacy policy. We recommend reviewing Apple's Privacy Policy.

3.4 Limited Data Sharing

We only share your personal information with Anthropic for the purpose of generating content. We do not sell your data to third parties. We do not use advertising networks or analytics services that collect personal data. Your information is shared only with the service providers listed above who are essential to operating the App.

4. Data Security

We take the security of your information seriously and implement multiple layers of protection:

• All data transmitted to our servers uses industry-standard HTTPS encryption
• Our database uses parameterized queries to prevent SQL injection attacks
• Data is hosted on secure servers in Upsun's Canada region with enterprise-grade security
• Access to our servers and database is restricted to authorized personnel only
• We implement appropriate technical and organizational measures to protect your data
• Communication with Anthropic's AI service uses secure, encrypted channels

While we implement strong security measures, no method of transmission over the internet or electronic storage is 100% secure. We cannot guarantee absolute security of your data.

5. Data Retention

We retain your information for the following periods:

• Personal Information: Retained indefinitely or until you request deletion. Profile data is kept to improve your experience across sessions.
• Generated Content: Retained indefinitely for analytics and service improvement. All letters and messages you generate are stored on our servers.
• Usage Data: Anonymized usage statistics are retained to improve the App.

6. Children's Privacy

Dear Valentine is not intended for use by children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. You have the following rights regarding your information:

• Access: You can request information about the data we collect (which is minimal)
• Deletion: You can request deletion of any data we may have collected
• Data Control: All your data stays on your device; you have complete control over your information

8. International Users

Our servers are located in Canada (Upsun's Canada region). If you are located outside Canada, please be aware that your information will be transferred to, stored, and processed in Canada.

Additionally, when generating content, your data is transmitted to Anthropic's Claude AI service, which may process your information in the United States or other countries where Anthropic operates. By using the App, you consent to the transfer of your information to Canada, the United States, and other countries where our service providers operate.

9. Changes to This Privacy Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of any changes by:

• Posting the new Privacy Policy in the App and on our website
• Updating the "Effective Date" at the top of this policy
• Sending you a notification through the App (for material changes)

Your continued use of the App after any changes indicates your acceptance of the updated Privacy Policy.

10. California Privacy Rights

If you are a California resident, you have additional rights under the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA):

• The right to know what personal information we collect and how it is used
• The right to delete personal information we have collected
• The right to opt-out of the sale of personal information (we do not sell your information)
